Geochemistry Laboratory Operator Workshop
The first Geochemistry Laboratory Operator Workshop took place on the 23rd and 24th March 2026 in the School of Earth Sciences at the University of Bristol, before the Geochemistry Group Research in Progress (GGRiP) meeting. The aim of this workshop was to bring together people who are involved in running, maintaining and/or managing geochemistry laboratories in the U.K. and Ireland.
Attendees got a chance to network and to discuss both the very practical aspects of the daily operation of a laboratory as well as analytical techniques and best practices. The post workshop feedback highlighted the value of bringing together people who might not be able to attend conferences and meetings. Providing an opportunity for like-minded technical professionals to come together to share knowledge, ask questions and discuss common concerns was mentioned as hugely beneficial by the participants.
Following the positive feedback about this first edition, the GLOW workshop will be renewed in April 2027, just before GGRiP 2027, and will take place at Royal Holloway, University of London (dates to be confirmed).
Alongside these meetings, we have set up a mailing-list that aims at facilitating communication and mutual assistance between geochemistry laboratory technical staff based at UK & Irish institutions. If you would like to subscribe to the GLOW mailing list, please email sympa@lists.cam.ac.uk with “SUB ucam-glow” as the subject line.
If you have any questions, please email Marie-Laure Bagard.
