GGRiP 2026 – Bristol
We are excited to announce that the next Geochemistry Group Research in Progress (GGRiP) meeting will take place in Bristol on the 24th-26th of March 2026. Visit the GGRiP website for the full schedule.
For GGRiP 2026 in Bristol, we are running 2 pre-conference workshops that will be free for all conference attendees. The first will be a Geochemistry Laboratory Operator Workshop, covering lab techniques and lab management. Register for this workshop here.
The second workshop will be aimed at ECRs, covering the basics and foundations of mass spectrometry techniques. To register for this workshop, please fill in this form. There will be guest lecturers from across earth science/chemistry/Archaeology. Topics will include:
(1) Introduction to Atoms, Molecules, Ions, Fields and Forces. (2) Inorganic Mass Spectrometry for Elemental and Isotope Ratio Determination: Quads, TOF, Sectors, (CC)-MC-ICPMS. (3) GC and LC Mass Spectrometry Techniques for Separating and Quantifying Molecules in Complex Mixtures; compound specific IRMS (C,N,H).
Visit the GGRiP website to register and submit your abstract!

This year’s conference will also include an ice-breaker at the Lapworth Museum of Geology, with the opportunity to showcase any hidden talents at an Open Mic fringe-style event, along with an art and photography competition, in aid of fundraising for the Midlands Art Centre. So please sign up!
Confirmed keynotes include: Dr Ross Whiteford (Royal Holloway), Dr Aled Evans (University of Southampton), Prof. Clare Warren (The Open University), Prof. Kirsty Penkman (University of York), and Dr Tom Dunkley Jones (University of Birmingham).
ECR Skills for Geochemists: Things I wish I knew when I started my PhD…
In our lunchtime seminar series ‘ECR Skills for Geochemists’, we aim to provide geochemistry-focused training and advice to PhD students and other Early Career Researchers (ECRs). You can watch these sessions below and on our YouTube channel.
Our next session will be on “Things I wish I knew when I started my PhD…” on Monday 8th December at 12 noon (GMT).
Attendance is free but you’ll need to register using the google form here.
The session will comprise a panel discussion and Q+A, with a range of panellists from different areas of geochemistry providing their tips and advice on completing a PhD.
The session will be suitable for all PhD students, but particularly for those who are starting out or in their first few years. Panellists will answer your questions and share tips and advice on how to manage your project, your supervisors, and complete a successful PhD! When you register, you’ll have the chance to submit your own questions for the panel!
Hope many of you can join us, and in the meantime if you have any questions please contact David Wilson (david.j.wilson@ucl.ac.uk).
